For a Bride- What is Raw Footage and Why am I Being Charged for it?

Hey there, it's Dalton from Spark Cinema, based in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri! I often get asked about raw footage - what it is, why it's important, and why we charge for it. So, I thought I'd take a moment to shed some light on these questions and hopefully help you out!

Raw footage is the unedited, unprocessed video clips we capture during your special day. It's the real, unfiltered moments, sometimes even including audio. It's the laughter during the best man's speech, the tears in your mother's eyes, the spontaneous dance-offs - all the moments, big and small. It's important to remember that raw footage can often be shaky or uncolored, as it hasn't been touched by any editing tools yet. The footage can also take up a lot of storage space, as some videographers have very big files, so make sure to keep that in mind. Each Videographer also handles raw footage a little bit different, so it's definitely best to reach out and talk to your wedding videographer beforehand to see how they handle it before you purchase it!

Now, you might be wondering, why do we charge for raw footage? Well, there are a few reasons. Firstly, organizing and processing the footage takes a significant amount of time and effort. We want to ensure that we're delivering the best possible product to you, and that takes resources. (Some Videographers do organize footage at least a little bit, and some do not at all). Secondly, raw footage is typically large in size and may require additional storage. Sometimes, we even need to purchase a hard drive to deliver it on.

Lastly, when we sell raw footage, we're essentially giving away our "rights" to the footage. This means that someone could take the raw footage and hire someone else to edit it. It's a bit like giving away the secret recipe to our special sauce!

But let me tell you, the benefits of purchasing raw footage are immense. You get access to all the footage captured during your wedding, including those precious moments that may not have made it into the final edited video. I know my wife and I love looking back on our raw footage from our wedding day. There's just so many things we missed! You can create your own edited version of the wedding video, or use the footage for other projects. And most importantly, you'll have a permanent record of your wedding in its entirety, allowing you to relive every single special moment for years to come.

When you purchase raw footage from us, expect to receive all the unedited and unprocessed video footage that was captured during your wedding ceremony and reception. This will be in many individual clips, provided either on a physical storage device or via a digital download.

In conclusion, raw footage is a treasure trove of memories from your special day. While there's a cost associated with obtaining it, the ability to relive your wedding day in its most authentic form is truly priceless. As always, we're here to capture your love story in the most beautiful and genuine way possible.
